| Polio
Plus has provided consultancy services to a number
of governmental agencies. We successfully advised
the National Centre for Unemployment on how to close
loopholes in a new law granting benefits to companies
employing disabled people. The Ministry of Finance
invited us to participate in a think tank for a
strategy against poverty. In addition Polio Plus
is currently acting as consultants to a Phare project
addressing structural change and reform in the Ministry
of Labour and Social Policy.
As a local disability NGO
we actively seek to collaborate with our colleagues,
as demonstrated by the project Unequal Treatment
is Equal to Illegal Treatment, where we worked
in partnership with 30 disability and non-disability
NGOs. We are increasingly approached for advice
and mentoring from other local disability NGOs.
To date we have successfully facilitated 5 such
NGOs to either establish themselves, or to plan
and achieve funding for specific projects.
On an international basis, we are the only Macedonian
members of European Disability Forum, an association
of European NGOs that has representational status
in the European Community. We are one of four
partner NGOs in a project covering six Balkan
countries aimed at capacity building emerging
local disability NGOs. Disabled People International
has invited us to conduct training designed to
capacity build Italian disability NGOs.
Polio
Plus is regularly invited to speak at seminars
and conferences in Macedonia and internationally.
Our project successes have been used as subject
matter for capacity building training courses
for Macedonian NGOs.
